RENSSELAER — Rensselaer Central School Corporation has voted against extending the contract of its head boys basketball coach during a school corporations meeting Monday.
Former head coach Chad Pulver's contract wasn't extended after the Bombers finished 10-14 in 2023-2024.
"Coach Pulver was a winning coach and we appreciate all the work he did with the students over the years," RCSC superintendent Curtis Craig said. "He did a lot of really good things for the schools and we appreciate all of his efforts."
Pulver was told before the school corporation's meeting that he wouldn't have the votes to keep his job as head coach.
"Rather than create a public spectacle, I'd rather just get out of the way and let them move on," Pulver said. "The kids need some direction and they need to figure out what's best for them. I don't need to delay that process."
Pulver leaves Rensselaer Central after he finished 92-75 during seven seasons, a career that started in 2018.

Pulver led Rensselaer Central to its first IHSAA Sectional Championship in 17 years in 2022 and won the school's first Hoosier Conference Championship in 2023.
"When we took the floor, we took a lot of pride in what we did, how prepared we were and our competition knew when they played against us, they were in for a game," Pulver said. "That comes from people buying into something greater than themselves."
