Introducing this week's Journal & Courier Athletes of the Week selections.
Franklin Caceras — Harrison boys soccer
Caceras proved he can compete against some of the top players in Indiana for a Harrison program loaded with talent. Caceras dissected the defense of No. 11 Westfield last Thursday scoring a goal and added an assist for the No. 6 ranked Raiders who pummeled the Shamrocks 3-0 last Thursday. Harrison is unbeaten in 14 games with a record of 10-0-4, playing at a championship level with IHSAA sectional playoffs two weeks away.
Addison Meadows — Southmont girls golf
Consistency and cool has defined the career of Meadows. The senior from Southmont qualified for her fourth IHSAA state championship after shooting a 74 and a third overall finish at the IHSAA regional at Battle Ground Golf Club on Saturday. Meadows' score and placement at regionals was the highest of her career. She is the last golfer representing the Lafayette area and will compete at state located at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.
Jackson Mills — Harrison football
The Raiders are rolling once again behind a defense led by Mills that's dictated the tone and terms of engagement at the line of scrimmage. Mills made 10 tackles including two for loss and scored a touchdown on a 52-yard interception return and Harrison vanquished Marion 36-6 last Friday.
Antwoine Richmond — Lafayette Jeff football
Richmond of Lafayette Jeff needed just five carries to rush for 115 yards and two touchdowns including a 99-yard carry in a dominant 70-0 victory over Richmond to stay undefeated.
Nola Painter — Harrison girls golf
The freshman pulled off the unexpected last Monday at the IHSAA regionals at Coyote Crossing. Painter on a par-3 sank a hole-in-one on hole five — the first of her career and the only one that was hit during the tournament.
Addie Wallar — Central Catholic girls soccer
Wallar led Central Catholic to an upset win over West Lafayette 1-1 (3-2 in penalty kicks) to capture the Hoosier Conference Championship last Saturday. Wallar netted the game tying goal in the 65th minute and went on to score one of the three penalty kicks.
Sara Zarse — Tri County volleyball
Zarse led Tri-County's first win over Faith Christian in six years last Tuesday. Zarse pounded home 15 kills against the Eagles and 17 kills against Rensselaer and West Central last Monday and Thursday. Tri-County is 23-1 with one loss to IHSAA Class 2A state contender Benton Central.
