    Peoria Notre Dame playoff run ends with loss in Class 2A baseball supersectional

    GENESEO — Peoria Notre Dame's baseball luck ran out in the Elite Eight.

    Wilmington grabbed an early lead and never looked back, allowing one hit in a 5-0 victory over PND in the Class 2A Geneseo Supersectional on Monday.

    The Irish (22-11), seeded fourth in the regional, were making their first Illinois High School Association supersectional appearance in 13 years, matching the 2011 Class 3A squad for the farthest postseason advancement in program history.

    Wilmington (27-1) is back at the state finals for the first time since winning the 2005 Class A state title. The Wildcats play 7 p.m. Friday in the Class 2A semifinals at Dozer Park in Peoria.

    Two Wilmington runners scored in the top of the first after they got their first three batters on base. The Wildcats then added three insurance runs in the sixth. Kyle Farrell hurled a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks for Wilmington, which pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of three PND errors.

    Notre Dame starter Bryce Seaton gave up seven hits and four earned runs, but struck out eight and walked one on 95 pitchers. First baseman Jackson Campbell had the Irish's lone hit.

    Class 1A: GCMS 3, Annawan/Wethersfield 0

    BLOOMINGTON — Annawan/Wethersfield saw its season end to Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in the Class 1A Bloomington Supersectional at Illinois Wesleyan.

    The Titans (20-7-1) outhit GCMS, 5-3, but couldn't overcome a two-run first inning. A pair of run-scoring hits were the difference in the opening at-bats for the Falcons, who added an insurance run in the third on a run-scoring sacrifice fly.

    Leadoff hitter Maddux Heitzler went 2-for-4 for A/W, which also got a double by Dillon Horrie and base hits from Caleb McGill and Colin Hornback. Koeyn DeClercq went the distance, tossing a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and five walks.

    The Falcons (22-7-1) now play Altamont (30-9) in the 1 p.m. Friday in a Class 1A state semifinal at Dozer Park in Peoria.
