    Bus driver cited in accident that injured Peoria first-grade students

    The bus driver transporting a group of Peoria Public Schools first-grade students to the Peoria Riverfront Museum when they were involved in a crash Wednesday has been cited by Peoria police for running a red light.

    Peoria Police Department spokesperson Semone Roth confirmed Monday that the male driver had received a citation for his alleged actions in the crash, which occurred around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday near Carle Health Methodist Hospital .

    The citation was given on the same day as the crash, according to Roth.

    Police said that 16 students from Charter Oak Primary School were injured in the crash, along with two adults. The students were transported to local hospitals on a precautionary basis, according to the district.
