After 57 years in business, Red Carpet Car Wash is planning to close its original location in Downtown Peoria.

The longtime car wash – founded in 1967 and situated at 505 NE Jefferson St. – will shut down after a final day on Aug. 31.

“Our Jefferson St. location requires substantial renovations to continue to operate as a car wash and gas station,” the business wrote in a recent announcement. “Current economic conditions do not justify the significant investment that would be required for those renovations.”

The business will continue to operate its two other Peoria locations, which are situated at 711 W. Glen Ave. and 8201 N. Knoxville Ave.

"We appreciate your loyalty and have been proud to serve the Peoria area from this location for 57 years," the business wrote.
