3 teens arrested in connection to armed robbery of Peoria postal worker

Three people, including two juveniles, were arrested by Peoria police in connection with the armed robbery of a U.S. postal worker Monday.

Jamel Anthony, 18, was arrested along with a 16-year-old and 15-year-old after a brief foot chase with police that ended with the trio being arrested and charged in connection to the robbery in the 300 block of West Republic Street, according to a police news release.

Anthony has been charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, no FOID, and obstructing police.

The juveniles were both charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and obstructing police.

Police located the stolen vehicle that was believed to be connected to the robbery in the 1100 block of East Behrends Avenue and soon after observed the three suspects enter the vehicle and drive away.

The vehicle then stopped in the 700 block of East London Avenue, where the three suspects got out of the vehicle and were confronted by police.

A foot chase ensued, but police eventually apprehended all three suspects.

Anthony was allegedly in possession of a loaded handgun when arrested, the release said.

Police said that at 1:26 p.m., they were called to the 300 block of West Republic Street after receiving a report of an armed robbery. Officers interviewed the postal worker upon arriving at the scene, who said that an armed male approached her while she was delivering mail in the area. He took her mail bag and personal items.
