PEORIA — A man shot in the face in Downtown Peoria early Friday morning is dead and another man has been arrested, according to Peoria police.

Lacorlis T. Edwards, 40, of Peoria turned himself in to the Peoria Police Department on Friday afternoon after the shooting on Main Street, according to a late Friday night release from Peoria police spokesperson Semone Roth. Edwards has been charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

Edwards was transported to the Peoria County Jail.

The victim was identified as Sylvester Erving, 45, of Peoria, according to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Peoria police responded to the 500 block of Main Street around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning on a report of a person shot. When police arrived, they located Erving outside Neon Bison with a gunshot wound to the face.

Erving was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries before he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:52 a.m., according to police.
