Looking for a new job this Labor Day? Here are major companies hiring in Peoria

If you're looking for a job or seeking a career change this Labor Day, there are plenty of work opportunities available in the Peoria area.

Peoria's job market shrank by 632 jobs, a 0.6% decrease, from pre-pandemic numbers, according to analysis done by The New York Times , but there are still thousands of job openings in the region from hundreds of companies looking for workers.

Peoria's unemployment rate of 6.1% hovers slightly above the national average of 4.5% but is on par with the state average of 6.2%, according to data from the Illinois Department of Employment Security .

The median household income for Peorians is $65,301, and the average household income in Peoria is $91,959, according to U.S. Census Bureau data from 2022.

Roughly 30% of Peoria households have an income above $100,000 a year, while 38% have a household income below $50,000 a year.

The Greater Peoria Economic Development Council has 2,420 jobs across 138 companies listed on its job board .

Indeed.com also has more than 2,000 jobs listed within 35 miles of Peoria.

Here are some of the major employers in Peoria looking for workers.

OSF HealthCare

OSF HealthCare has 513 job openings, according the GPEDC job board.

A large number of OSF's openings are seeking registered nurses from a variety of practices including general surgery, triage, occupational health, prompt care, emergency and a litany of others.

Some of OSF's nursing openings pay over $50/hour.

Some non-medical openings at OSF include a valet position, warehouse operator that pays up to $21/hour, an HVAC mechanic and many more.

Carle Health

Carle Health has 378 job openings, according to the GPEDC job board, and much like OSF HealthCare, they are seeking a variety of nurses across many departments.

In non-medical positions, Carle Health is seeking housekeepers, cooks and security personnel among other positions.

Caterpillar

Caterpillar has 99 job openings on the GPEDC job board across its locations in Peoria, Mossville, Mapleton.

They are seeking multiple engineers, including a director of engineering for its Mossville location and a senior design engineering specialist at its East Peoria location.

Other Caterpillar openings include an account and administrative assistant in Peoria, multiple software engineer openings in Peoria, data specialists and 2025 summer corporate interns.

Bradley University

Bradley University has 36 job openings listed on the GPEDC job board.

They are seeking a handful of assistant professors in disciplines such as mechanical engineering, journalism, public relations and management information systems.

Bradley is also seeking administrative assistants, campus police officers and an Executive Director of Campus Culture and Climate.

Illinois Central College

Illinois Central College has 36 jobs posted on the GPEDC job board for both its Peoria and East Peoria locations.

They are seeking adjunct professors and instructors in departments such as: welding, community education, surgical technology, music, computer networking, multimedia, graphic design and others.

Maui Jim

Maui Jim, which announced plans for a major expansion in Peoria last year, has 24 job listings on the GPEDC job board.

They are looking for a variety of positions including a logistics technician, inventory specialist, customer service representatives, frame repair technicians and a variety of other positions.

Komatsu

Komatsu has 21 job openings listed on the GPEDC website, a majority of which are manufacturing related.

They are seeking assemblers, including a mechanical assembly technician position that pays $31/hour and a host of engineering positions.
