Former Peoria Rivermen goaltender Jeremy Brodeur played the entire NHL preseason game Monday for the New Jersey Devils .

It was already a great story line, with Brodeur starting for the same team his father, Martin Brodeur , was a superstar goaltender for nearly two decades.

The younger Brodeur added to the plot Monday, facing a New York Rangers team that figures to be a top Stanley Cup contender.

Brodeur carried a shutout for 58:18 until the Rangers scored with under two minutes to play in New Jersey's 3-1 win .

Brodeur, 27, came to the Rivermen in the SPHL to revive his career in 2019-20 and he put up blistering numbers with a 5-1-0 mark for a 1.85 goals-against and .944 saves rate. He then played a couple seasons in Europe and has been splitting time between AHL and ECHL teams the last five years.

If Brodeur can make the Devils' regular-season roster, he could become the second player with SPHL roots to reach the NHL. Scott Darling did it with the Blackhawks from 2014-15 through 2016-17.
