What does SB1909 want to accomplish?

SB1909 is about special license plates in Oklahoma. The money from the Monarch Butterfly License Plate purchase will go to the Broken Arrow Public Schools.

Main points of the new law:

    1. Changing Who Benefits:
      • Right now, there's a special license plate called the Monarch Butterfly License Plate. The bill changes which organization gets the money from selling these plates.
    2. New License Plate for Schools:
      • The bill creates a new license plate for Broken Arrow Public Schools. This means if you buy this plate, the money helps these schools.
    3. Service Oklahoma's Role:
      • Service Oklahoma, the agency that handles things like licenses, can make deals to produce these special plates.

💥Why It Matters: This bill helps raise money for specific causes and schools through the sale of special car tags. People can show support for causes they care about by choosing these tags for their cars.

Who will benefit from this law?

    ✔️Broken Arrow Public Schools:
They will get money from the sale of the new special license plates, which can help fund school programs, activities, and resources.

✔️Organizations Tied to the Monarch Butterfly License Plate:
The bill changes which organization gets the money from this plate, so the new beneficiary organization will receive funds to support their cause.

✔️Car Owners Who Support These Causes:
People who buy these special license plates can show their support for Broken Arrow Public Schools or the Monarch Butterfly cause. They can feel good knowing their money is helping something important to them.

    ✔️Service Oklahoma:
The agency will benefit from having clear guidelines and the ability to create licensing agreements for these plates, making the process smoother and more efficient.

What are some concerns people might have about this law?

    ⚠️Cost for Car Owners:
Special license plates often cost more than regular plates. Some people might not want to pay extra, even if the money goes to a good cause.

    ⚠️Limited Beneficiaries:
The money from these plates only goes to specific organizations (Broken Arrow Public Schools and the new beneficiary for the Monarch Butterfly plate). Other schools or causes won't get any funds from these sales.

    ⚠️Administrative Changes:
Updating the process and making new agreements can take time and resources for Service Oklahoma. This might cause delays or require additional work for the agency.

    ⚠️Unclear Impact:
It's uncertain how much money will actually be raised from these special plates. If not many people buy them, the financial benefit for the organizations could be small.

    ⚠️Equity Concerns:
Schools in other areas might feel left out since only Broken Arrow Public Schools are getting a special license plate. This could create a sense of unfairness among other districts.

This bill was signed into law on April 23, 2024 and goes into effect on November 1, 2024.

➡️Is this something that you think Oklahomans need? Will it benefit the county you live in?

What the heck are they talking about? The tribes pay almost nothing for their tags then the illegals all use FAKE paper tags they swap out every couple of months. That leaves us the remaining 10% of the citizens footing the bills and rising prices. THEY NEED A TASK FORCE THAT CHECKS PAPER TAGS AND TRACKS THEM!!
