Good Decisions Aren't Enough: Here's What You Need to Succeed

Do you ever catch yourself thinking, “Where did the day go?”

I think we’ve all been there — days when our lives get so busy that our big picture — our dreams — somehow take a backseat. It’s not that we don’t care; it’s just that the everyday stuff takes over. But every now and then, it’s worth taking a moment to check in and ask:

Are the choices I’m making today getting me closer to where I want to be?

It’s definitely not about drastic changes or aiming for perfection every day. It’s about our small, consistent actions that add up each day. Those little decisions we make, even when life is hectic, keep us on track or take us away from our bigger goals.

You know how it goes — grabbing a donut instead of making breakfast, reaching for yet another soda instead of drinking water. Our poor choices add up just as quickly as the good ones.

There’s nothing wrong with treats now and then, but when our treats become the norm, they start to derail us.

I’ve had plenty of days where I felt like I was just getting through it. But I’ve learned that when I focus on making good choices and sticking with them, things start to shift in the right direction.

    As John Maxwell says,

Good Decisions — Daily Discipline = A Plan without a Payoff
Daily Discipline — Good Decisions = Regimentation without Reward
Good Decisions + Daily Discipline = A Masterpiece of Potential

Sometimes, even when we know what we need to do, it’s tough to get started. But when we decide we’ve had enough of feeling stuck and want a change, we must step outside our comfort zone (even if it’s just a tiptoe at first). It might feel uncomfortable, but this is how we create change and reach goals.

Pushing beyond our comfort level is key to a fresh start.

But as Leeana Tankersley wisely says, “Wherever we’re trying to go, we do not bully ourselves there. We believe ourselves there.”

Each one of us holds the power to start over — no matter our age, circumstances, or past choices, there’s always a way to rebuild.

So, maybe today’s a good enough day to ask yourself: Am I making choices today that will build the life I want tomorrow? And if not, that’s okay.

There’s always tomorrow to try again.

If this resonates with you, I think you might find something interesting in another piece called, The Small Things That Are Secretly Shaping Your Life.
