Georgia's June net tax revenues up 6.5%; Adjusted YTD down 3.4%
The State of Georgia’s net tax collections in June approached a total of $3.03 billion, for an increase of $185.4 million or 6.5 percent compared to FY 2023, when net tax collections totaled $2.84 billion for the month. Year-to-date, net tax revenue totaled almost $32.95 billion, for a decrease of $182.2 million or 0.5 percent compared to FY 2023, during which the state’s motor fuel excise tax was suspended for more than half the fiscal year, until January 10, 2023. Macon’s ‘state-of-the-art’ pickleball courts make it destination for national championship
Macon holds its indoor pickleball facility in high regard, and it was packed with players over the weekend for national championships. Rhythm and Rally Sports and Events hosted hundreds of people 50 and over, who turned out for the second day of the U.S. Senior Indoor Pickleball National Championships in hopes of winning a national title. The tournament ran from Friday to Sunday, and featured men’s and women’s events, as well as doubles featuring men and women.

State champion softball teams set to compete in Diamond Youth World Series on July 18
Two area softball teams are heading to Tennessee to compete in the Diamond Youth World Series. The Hephzibah girls’ softball 12U and 15U all-star teams both won the inaugural Diamond Youth Softball State Championship and now will represent Georgia in the program’s World Series in Fairview, Tennessee, on July 18-22.

Man escapes Oregon prison, found 30 years later in Georgia with stolen identity
Authorities have captured Steven Craig Johnson, who escaped from an Oregon state prison nearly 30 years ago and assumed the identity of a deceased child. Johnson, 70, was arrested at an apartment complex in Macon, Georgia, on Tuesday by the US Marshals Service and its fugitive task forces. He had been living under the name William Cox since 2011.
