Florida man arrested for threats against Donald Trump, J.D. Vance and families

A Florida man was arrested for allegedly making social media threats against former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance , just less than a week after the assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania.

Michael Wiseman was taken into custody without incident on charges of written threats to kill, the Jupiter Police Department announced in a statement on Friday. He’s being held at the Palm Beach County Jail.

Jupiter police — in conjunction with the United States Secret Service and the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office — launched an investigation into Wiseman after they received a series of tips regarding his social media activity.

“After investigating the reports and the suspect’s Facebook account, JPD detectives found that Wiseman had made multiple threats against Trump and Vance, who earlier this week became the Republican nominees for President and Vice President, respectively,” the statement said. “Threats were also made concerning bodily harm to members of the Trump and Vance families.”

Wiseman, who does not have a criminal record, reportedly admitted to making the treats but did not say why he made them.

Authorities did not provide further details on the content of the threats.

The arrest comes after 78-year-old Trump was shot during a recent campaign rally , sparking concern about the potential for political violence in the weeks leading up to the 2024 presidential election.

The former president was struck in the ear while another rally-goer, volunteer firefighter Corey Comperatore , was killed and two others were wounded.

The gunman, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks , was killed shortly after he opened fire from a roof overlooking the event.
