Last week, the Chino Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) and a group of parents were in a legal battle with the state. The southern California school district sued Gov. Gavin Newsom over Assembly Bill 1955, a law that bans educators from notifying parents about their child’s gender identity. The law aims to protect transgender students against being forced to “come out” to their parents against their will. However, parents and school board members in Chino Valley argue that the law violates the parent’s rights under the United States Constitution.

Black woman dies in California prison from heat over 110 degrees
A 42-year-old Black woman, Adrienne Boulware, has died in the custody of the California Department of Corrections at the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla. On July 4, prison guards exposed Boulware to extreme temperatures outdoors during a heatwave for 15 minutes, leaving her with just a small glass of water in the over 110 F heat. Boulware began to exhibit symptoms of heat exhaustion almost immediately after returning indoors. Two days later, she passed away while receiving medical care. ACWPC All-Academic Team REDLANDS, Calif. – University of Redlands Women's Water Polo hauled in 12 individual academic honors as well as a team honor from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) for the 2023-24 school year. The ACWPC announced its 2024 Women's All-Academic Teams from its office in Bridgeport, Pa. The ACWPC broke down the awards into three categories: Outstanding (4.0-3.71 GPA), Superior (3.70-3.41 GPA), and Excellent (3.40-3.20).
