Louisiana residents from New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and Lake Charles can recite this weather poem that many of us learned in our youth, "Spring has sprung, fall has fell, it's almost July and it's hotter than...usual". Come on, we were raised in families that didn't use that kind of...

Is it Legal to Automatically Charge Gratuity in Louisiana?
There is One Restaurant in Shreveport That Quickly Lost My Business. This restaurant has decided that they will pick and choose who they charge 18% gratuity to. I am all about people paying for an experience. One of my toxic traits is that I refuse to save money like I should because I stay dining out and traveling. I believe that a basic tip of 20% is the least you can do when you are being waited on. I was a server for several years and there is no worse feeling than busting your butt just to get stiffed by a table. I understand that if there are tables of 8 or more a restaurant will add a gratuity charge which I am more than happy to pay. However, there is one eatery in town that I refuse to dine in because of their tipping policy.

In Texas, It’s Illegal to Use These Baby Names
Here in Texas most people would prefer to not be told what they can or cannot do. Most people in Texas don’t need someone else telling them how to act because they have been taught that growing up. And Texans sure as heck don’t want to be told what they can or cannot name their child. For the most part people in Texas can name their kid whatever they want although there are some specific names that are not allowed.
Who Else Remembers Video Disks? They Actually Existed!
I know what you're thinking: "Of course, I remember laser disks. I still have some in my basement!" But that's not what I am referring to. I'm talking about video disks. A friend and I were discussing my recent article, "Can You Identify These '70s Objects?" and the topic of home video came up. I then mentioned how much fun we had watching video disks in the early '80s. He replied, "Like video laser disks? The ones that look like giant CDs." I said, "No, the ones that looked like 78 RPM records."
Server Insists on 20 Percent Tip on Restaurant’s Receipt
Tipping is already a hot button topic for most of us. Not that we don't believe in it, rather we don't want to have to tip simply to tip rather do it as a reward, or extra thank you. Whether you drop some money in the tip jar at your...
Reports Suggest the Dallas Cowboys on Verge of Imploding
Full disclosure: I am not a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. I don't like Jerry Jones. I don't like the organization's seeming superiority complex. They are the New York Yankees of the Football world...minus all the championships. However, despite my dislike of everything Dallas Cowboys, I do sort of feel...

Reese’s That’s Good For You? When’s That Coming to Louisiana?
If I mention the word Reese's to you what comes to mind? I know at least one person in Lafayette that will mispronounce the word and call it Ree Seas, instead of what it's supposed to be called. The rest of us will probably just think about Halloween and others will use this narrative as a moment to contemplate what's in the office vending machine.
