Lee Daniels is set to reunite with Mo’Nique for the first time since their collaboration on the 2010 film Precious when their new Netflix movie, The Deliverance, premieres on Aug. 30. The big reunion comes nearly two years after the duo publicly reconciled at a comedy show in NYC following Mo’Nique’s hefty black-balling allegations against the former.

While speaking to Hello Beautiful’s social guru, Char Masona, during a recent press junket event, Lee, 64, said it was “healing” to repair his friendship with the 56-year-old comedian and actress.

“It was beautiful…It was part of me finding my light on this journey,” Daniels shared. “She was my best friend, best friend, and then this went to the left, and now part of finding the light was apologizing to her publicly, so that she understood how much I really loved her, and not only apologizing. But hey, girl. Let’s hit that screen again. So, that was important for me.”

Why were Mo’Nique and Lee Daniels beefing?

The rift between Mo’Nique and Daniels reportedly began when she declined to participate in the press campaign for his film Precious. Despite winning the 2009 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the flick, Mo’Nique said while she was pleased with the film’s success, she didn’t want to make Hollywood her main focus.

Although she was not contractually required to join the press tour, the actress claimed she faced pressure from Daniels and producers Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey to participate. Mo’Nique grew frustrated when they allegedly requested that she join the press tour without compensation. Additionally, she alleged that the trio’s actions caused her to miss out on high-paying gigs in Hollywood due to allegations that she was challenging to work with.

Fortunately, the two resolved their decade-long feud in April 2022 when Mo’Nique invited Daniels to join her onstage during her comedy show in NYC.

“I am so sorry for hurting you in any way that I did,” Daniels said at the event, according to a clip shared on X by Pop Crave in 2022. “She was my best friend, my best friend. Y’all think that Precious was just — that was God working, through both of us. And we gon f***** do it again! I love you.”

Mo’Nique and Daniels will make movie magic once again when The Deliverance debuts on Aug. 30. According to The Hollywood Reporter , the comedian plays Cynthia, a case worker from Child Protective Services assigned to investigate the tumultuous life of Ebony (Andra Day), a single mother raising her children in an eerie Indiana house. As Ebony and her family uncover unsettling, demonic events within their abode, they come to believe that the house may be a portal to hell. The horror flick also stars Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Caleb McLaughlin, Demi Singleton, and Anthony B. Jenkins.
