It’s been a trying past several weeks for Hip-Hop fans: From the death of artists like Fatman Scoop and BeatKing , to photos of Southern rap legend Scarface being rushed to the hospital, it can be a lot to deal with, especially when losing a beloved performer is typically followed by an outpouring of love many seldom see while they’re here on Earth.

It’s a cycle that Bronx rap legend KRS-One says needs to end.

During a trip to Houston over Labor Day Weekend, the 59-year-old MC said Hip-Hop has a bad habit of waiting until rappers are no longer alive to sing their praises. His comments come in the wake of news that Fatman Scoop, a friend and music peer to KRS, had passed away.

On Friday (August 30th) Scoop was rushed to the hospital after collapsing during a performance. The incident occurred at The Green and Gold Party summer concert at Town Center Park in Hamden, Connecticut. According to reports , CPR was administered on-site during the medical emergency before he was taken to the hospital. There is currently no update on his condition. Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett has asked the public to “please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”
