McKenna Davidson continues to take soccer journey global

The soccer journey of Kealakehe’s McKenna Davidson has continued to take her around the globe.

After playing collegiately at Pacific University in Oregon, Davidson played professionally in Europe, most recently for Wexford in Ireland.

A hiatus in her career kept her off the pitch from 2020 to 2023, but she’s back, this time in Japan.

“It means the world to me. But it definitely wasn’t easy or handed to me. I definitely fought for my career. I think part of the reason that I still am chasing this dream of flying or coming to other countries and playing is so that other little kids from the island, especially girls, can see that it’s possible, of course, all over the state,” she said. “But I’m really involved in this opportunity. And Big Island, just because we’re from Big Island or from an outer island, doesn’t mean that we can have these big dreams, too. Very, very proud. I think it’s taken me a while to get to this place where I can feel extremely proud of myself for the way that I pushed through all that adversity and still continue to have these amazing experiences in my professional career.”
