U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Deb Haaland was in Cle Elum, Wash., Wednesday to highlight federally funded salmon restoration projects. Secretary Haaland joined Gov. Jay Inslee and state, local and Native American tribal leaders to celebrate the opening of almost 30 miles of critical habitat for salmon and steelhead populations above Cle Elum Dam via the completion of the juvenile fish passage facility.
MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility overrun by feral cats; Staff takes action
WOODBURN Ore. (KPTV) - The feral cat population at the MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn is something that’s hard not to notice. “We’ve just had cats that roam our property since I started in 2016,” said Troy Britting, the Program Director. “I think we’ve had some funny things, like the cats do live under buildings…we’ve all had a meeting disrupted by a cat a time or two.”

Portland’s Wayfinder Beer Company just announced the opening of its second location, a taproom in Troutdale, Oregon. More than a taproom, it’s a concept. The new Wayfinder taproom is now open, but a grand opening event is slated for August 31st. It is located at The Highlands, an eating and drinking destination and gathering place. “We are building a unique offering for folks to come and enjoy a meal that feels curated and intentional.”

WA Auditor’s Report Raises Concerns over WSDA Egg Inspections
According to a report from the WA State Auditor, the Washington State Department of Agriculture is lagging badly in its legally-mandated egg inspection program. By law, WSDA must inspect egg production facilities once a year, and visit egg packing facilities every quarter. Production facilities are where the eggs are laid by the chickens and then gathered and transported to packing plants.
