A high school hummingbird, drawn in many directions
Hummingbirds can fly in all directions. So it makes sense that the fluttering pollinators are Isaac Dennett’s favorite birds. The Fort Vancouver High School senior finds himself pulled in different directions too. Like chemical engineering. Or experimenting with fashion. Or his path into journalism. Isaac, who lives in Vancouver’s...

In every corner of Northwest Oregon, I hear compelling stories about how housing is out of reach and how the lack of affordable housing can devastate individuals and families. I’ve also heard stories of hope from Oregonians who have found a second chance at stability through Oregon’s Project Turnkey program, which the state launched in the depths of the pandemic to quickly convert vacant buildings like hotels and motels into affordable housing and emergency shelters. ...

The air quality in Tri-Cities has been poor for the past several days due to wildfires. When I opened the door Sunday morning, I instantly smelled smoke. On Saturday, I was able to join my friends on their pontoon to enjoy Water Follies action. It was fairly smoky on the Columbia River, as well.
