Lubbock man indicted for robbery that led to SWAT arrest

LUBBOCK, Texas — David Valdez Jr., 31, was indicted on Tuesday in connection to a robbery of the home of a family member that occurred on August 8, according to public records.

Valdez was indicted for Aggravated Robbery, Burglary of a Habitation, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Assault Causing Bodily Injury.

A probable cause affidavit previously obtained by EverythingLubbock.com revealed that Valdez arrived at a family member’s house claiming he was allowed into the residence. He later forced entry into a room and began “ransacking the bedroom.”

He found a firearm under her pillow and pointed it at her, demanding she tell him where the safe was. Using a mallet, Valdez broke open the safe and stole money. The affidavit said Valdez unplugged the security camera and left to go to his house.

A week later on August 15, officers arrived to his home to serve Valdez warrants. Combined efforts were needed from the Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Unit, LPD SWAT team and negotiators to get Valdez to leave the residence. Ultimately, a chemical agent was deployed, causing Valdez to surrender.

As of Tuesday, Valdez remained at Lubbock County Detention Center on bonds totaling $227,599.
