25th annual Hub City BBQ Cookoff returns at South Plains Fair

LUBBOCK, Texas — The 25th annual Hub City BBQ Cookoff, featuring nearly 100 cooking teams competing and live music performed by the 806 Duo and Hub City Drifters, is returning in October at the Panhandle South Plains Fairgrounds.

According to a press release, the BBQ cookoff hosted by the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, presented by the West Texas Land Guys will be on October 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“For 25 years, this event has brought Lubbock businesses and community members together for food and fun,” said Robert Wood, partner, West Texas Land Guys. “We take great pride in partnering with the Chamber to host an event that the community marks on their calendar year,” Wood added.

Teams will compete in categories including brisket, pork ribs, beans, Bloody Mary, dessert and a mystery challenge provided by the official grocer for the event, United Supermarkets, said the release. Additionally, event attendees will have the opportunity to sample some of the finest BBQ in the state and enjoy live music.

The 806 Duo, featuring local favorites Bo Garza and Jake Pyeatt will kick off the entertainment from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The headliners, Hub City Drifters known for paying homage to classic country greats, Panhandle heroes and West Texas legends will take the stage at 6:30 p.m.

The release said BBQ team registrations will close on Monday, September 16 and all teams must be members of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce. To register a team, click here.
