Officials host joint press conference about Lubbock County tax rate

LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish, Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe and UMC President Mark Funderburk will hold a joint news conference on Thursday afternoon regarding the county’s tax rate and budget for 2025.

According to a press release, the group will update citizens on the impacts and long-term implications of the No New Revenue Rate on the county, sheriff`s department and the hospital district.

“The Lubbock County Commissioners Court is scheduled to pass a tax rate and budget for the next fiscal year on Monday, September 23, 2024, during the regular session beginning at 10:00 a.m.,” a press release stated. “The Commissioners Court must also pass a tax rate for funding indigent health care through the Lubbock County Hospital District (UMC).”

people are struggling to "get by" and all that the powers that be can think of is we need more tax money? give it a rest already. maybe if the powers that be would lower their wages, they wouldn't need so much tax money. after all, our tax system was not originally meant to make them rich.
