Lubbock gas prices increase, no longer lowest in Texas

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock Metro Area no longer has the lowest gas in the state of Texas, according to a new report from AAA. The average this week sat around $2.76 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel in the Hub City, the report stated.

For comparison, last week’s report had the Hub City’s average at $2.58 per gallon. Out of the 27 Texas metro areas that were surveyed, Lubbock actually had the 10th most expensive gas in the state.

Drivers in the El Paso area were paying the most, according to the report, at an average of $2.96 per gallon. Drivers in the Brownsville-Harlingen area were paying the least at $2.63 per gallon.

“The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.22, which is the same price when compared to this day last week and 62 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year,” the AAA stated.

An AAA spokesperson said data from the Energy Information Administration stated fuel retail prices could fluctuate due to a potential increase in demand, and lower supplies regionally.
