    DPS Trooper airlifted to Lubbock after crash has passed away

    LUBBOCK, Texas — A statement from the Regional Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association delivered the unfortune news about Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez losing his life after battling complications and life threating injuries after responding to a wreck earlier this month.

    DPS said the Trooper was seriously hurt and was taken to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa before being airlifted to Lubbock. A statement from DPS said the trooper was outside his vehicle investigating a crash when he was hit by a vehicle from a previous report

    A statement from Regional Director regarding Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez:

    “Today is a very somber day, as our hearts weigh heavy in reporting the tragic death of Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez. On Tuesday, September 17th while investigating a crash, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez was struck by a vehicle. He was quickly transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa before being airlifted to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

    This morning, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez acceded to his injuries with his loving family by his side. Trooper Ramirez Vasquez, a United States Army Veteran, joined DPS in 2023, a graduate of Class A-23 and was stationed in Odessa. Trooper Ramirez Vasquez is a man of valor, honor, purpose, and a true servant leader, he will never be forgotten. Please keep Trooper Ramirez Vasquez’s family, friends, and colleagues in your prayers.

    Today, in his final lifesaving act, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez’ organs were donated to save others. Funeral services for Trooper Ramirez Vasquez are pending at this time and will be shared soon.”

    Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez, U.S. Army veteran and recent graduate of DPS class A-23, was working a crash in Ector County, when a vehicle struck an Ector County Sheriff’s department vehicle, critically injuring Trooper Vasquez who was outside of the vehicle. The Deputy, who was in his vehicle was injured as well. Trooper Vasquez was flown to a hospital in Lubbock with life threatening complications.

    The DPS Troopers Foundation is raising money for the Vasquez family through Help-a-Hero. A fee is charged up front, 100% of donations go to the family.

    My condolences to the family and I hope that the driver that caused this tragedy will be sentenced to prison for a very very long time
