Suspect arrested after 78-year-old Clovis woman shot and killed when answering door

LUBBOCK, Texas — Dany Lucero, 36, was arrested on Thursday after 78-year-old Virginia Montoya was shot and killed as she answered her front door on Wednesday evening, according to the Clovis Police Department.

When officers arrived to the scene in the 1300 block of Traver Street, Montoya was found with a single gunshot wound to her chest. She was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center where she succumbed to her wounds.

Lucero was arrested in the 4100 block of Cottonwood Drive Thursday morning after surveillance footage led to his identification. Clovis police said he was detained and held in custody by the Adult Probation Office as the investigation progressed. Lucero was later charged with an Open Count of Murder for the killing of Montoya.

Lucero was the grandson of Montoya’s husband, Clovis Police said.

Clovis Police said Lucero is in custody at the Curry County Detention Center.

When you see someone get smashed in prison the first time you might throw up, like when they are killed in front of you or so badly beaten you are in shock, well after the first time you get numb and join in because this guy is the type to get chopped up or beaten so bad he looks like mush...
