Today : Hot weather remains in place across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains on this Friday. It’ll be a sunny to mostly sunny day. High temperatures will be in the lower and the middle 90s. The wind will be out of the west-southwest this morning and then turn south-southwest this afternoon 5 to 15 mph.
Note: Lubbock’s record high on Friday is 96° from 2020. My forecast is for us to tie the record high today.

Tonight : Clear to mostly clear conditions are forecast this evening and tonight across the area. Low temperatures will range from the middle 50s to the lower 60s. The wind will be out of the south-southwest 5 to 10 mph.
Sunset this evening is at 7:18 PM CDT.
Saturday : The heat continues across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains on Saturday. It’ll be a sunny to mostly sunny day. High temperatures will range from the lower to the upper 90s. The wind will be out of the south-southwest 5 to 10 mph.
Note: Lubbock’s record high on Saturday is 92° from 1989. My forecast is for us to break the record high.

Extended Forecast : A dry weather pattern remains in place across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains over the extended forecast period. The heat will remain place through the end of the weekend. A transition to cooler and more seasonable weather (near average or slightly above average) is forecast to return next week.
High temperatures on Friday will be in the lower and the middle 90s. Saturday’s highs will range from the lower to the upper 90s. Highs on Sunday will range from the middle 80s to the middle 90s. Monday’s highs will be in the lower and the middle 80s. Tuesday’s and Wednesday highs will range from the middle 70s to the lower 80s. Forecast daytime highs on Thursday will be in the lower and the middle 80s.
Low temperatures on Saturday and Sunday morning will range from the middle 50s to the middle 60s. Monday’s morning will range from the upper 40s to the upper 50s. Lows on Tuesday and Wednesday morning will range from the middle 40s to the middle 50s. Forecast morning lows on Thursday will be in the lower and the middle 50s.
Drought Update : Multiple stages of drought continue to be reported across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains, according to the latest update of the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) released on Thursday, October 10. Extreme stage (D3) drought conditions, severe stage (D2) drought conditions, moderate stage (D1) drought conditions and abnormally dry (D0) status were reported across the Rolling Plains. Moderate stage (D1) drought conditions and abnormally dry (D0) status were reported across the portions of the South Plains.
