Three Perryton firefighters injured on duty

PERRYTON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — According to the City of Perryton three Peryton firefighters were injured while working on a fire last night.

According to city officials, a fully engulfed structure fire on NW 2nd Ave took place last night at 10:44 pm.

City officials added that both the Perryton Fire Department and Perryton Police Department responded to the fire. As the firefighters and police were setting up equipment a fire hose that was being charged with water whipped and injured three firefighters.

According to city officials, Assistant Fire Chief Scott Glass sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted to Northwest Texas Healthcare System in Amarillo and is in critical condition.

Volunteer firefighter Thomas Beals sustained a broken arm and other fractures and is at NWTH in stable condition undergoing an observation period. Jacob Anderson another volunteer firefighter was initially taken to Ochiltree General Hospital where he was treated and released with minor injuries.

The City of Perryton said that Perryton Fire and EMS personnel are with the families of those injured and asked for prayers for all involved.

City of Perryton officials added that Booker and Spearmen Fire Department responded and assisted with firefighting. Candian, Follett, and Beaver County are deploying equipment and personnel to assist with final firefighting. The City of Pampa will be sending a fire engine and personnel to Perryton later today to relieve personnel for rest.
