Amarillo Area Office of Emergency Management will offer course on disaster training

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Amarillo Area Office of Emergency Management will offer a free course to educate citizens on disaster preparedness for local disasters.

According to the City of Amarillo, the Amarillo Area OEM will begin offering its free Community Emergency Response Team Academy program on Aug. 24.

City officials detailed that CERT offers volunteer training and an organization that responders can rely on during disaster situations. The class will train volunteers in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.

Officials said classes will be held on:

• Aug. 24, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Sept. 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Sept. 21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m
• Oct. 5, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Oct. 24, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The class will be in the Amarillo OEM office in the Simms Building on Buchanan Street. Those interested in registering for the CERT Academy program can do so online here.
