Local high school football rivalries set to face off in 2024-25 season

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Texas high school football begins Friday and high school football stadiums will be filled with communities watching the next generation of talent. A new generation is among us but rivalries and traditions remain the same.

One of the most notable high school football rivalries in the State of Texas takes place in Amarillo between Amarillo High and Palo Duro. This rivalry is also the oldest in Amarillo ISD, Amarillo High won the last meeting in 2021, 30-14.

The biggest local rivalries are also set to take place this year on the same night with Canyon taking on Randall, and Tascosa facing Amarillo High. Canyon won their last meeting with RHS 48-7, and Tascosa won the last meeting with AHS 40-6.

Here’s a list of rivalries facing off this season:

• Amarillo High vs. Palo Duro – 9/20
• Pampa vs. Borger – 9/20
• Clarendon vs. Memphis – 11/1
• Amarillo High vs. Lubbock – 11/1
• Memphis vs. Wellington – 11/8
• Amarillo High vs Tascosa – 11/8
• Canyon vs Randall – 11/8
