It’s a day filled with excitement for returning students, reuniting with friends and classmates they haven’t seen in months.

For seniors, the countdown to graduation is officially on.

For freshmen, it’s just the beginning of a new journey.

But for all students, it was a day to learn to navigate around the campus and find their classes.

One freshman from New Jersey is having to get used to the Texas heat.

“The heat is a big thing, so it’s always crazy hot here. I chose Baylor just for the family oriented and community that the Baylor tradition has,” says Alex Grubbs.

Alex Grubbs is a freshman biology major. He is looking forward to all the activities Baylor has to offer.

“All the activities that Baylor has to offer like football. Obviously you have basketball coming up in winter, and then just like being on campus with everyone, it’s just a nice feeling,” says Grubbs.

New students like Alex could learn a few things from people like Calvin Hemmer, an economic major from Kansas.

Going on his third year at Baylor, he has some friendly advice for new students.

“Meet as many people as you can, stay out of trouble, and work hard as possible,” says junior economics major, Calvin Hemmer.

Calvin came to Baylor because his mom played on the soccer team, but he’s here to make a name for himself.

“That transition. I mean, it was hard. I didn’t know anybody coming here, but I’m a pretty outgoing social person, so that made it pretty easy,” says Hemmer.

He says he’s excited to be back on campus and start classes again. He learned everything about economics from his father.

“My dad did economics and just from a young age, I found it interesting. He was kind of teaching me concepts about it and I kind of fell in love with. I started doing a little bit more reading about it and just fell in love with it,” says Hemmer.

Both students say they are excited to grow and meet new people this coming school year.
