AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Drivers in Texas saw a decrease in gas prices this week with an average of $2.95/gallon for regular unleaded fuel on Thursday, which is a 4-cent decrease compared to last week and 46 cents less compared to this day last year, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

According to AAA Texas, drivers in Amarillo were paying $2.82/gallon, a 6-cent decrease compared to last week and a 54-cent decrease compared to this day last year. AAA Texas reported that drivers in the El Paso metro area were paying the most on average at $3.39/gallon and drivers in Lubbock were paying the least on average at $2.78/gallon.

Nationally, the average price per gallon was $3.36/gallon on Thursday, marking a 3-cent decrease compared to last week and 46 cents less compared to this day last year.

According to AAA Texas officials, the demand for fuel is a solid 9.307 million barrels per day and price fluctuations remain possible with demand increasing ahead of the Labor Day weekend.

“The statewide gas price average is 46 cents cheaper heading into this Labor Day when compared to one year ago,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “While fluctuations remain possible due to holiday travel demand, fuel prices are expected to continue on a downward trend heading into September.”
