Amarillo Environment Health Department issues alert for rejected Cacique products sold directly to consumers

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) —The Amarillo Environmental Health Department said rejected product from the Cacique Plant in Amarillo may have been sold directly to consumers in Hereford.

According to AEHD, the Texas Department of Health and Human Services received a report that a truck load of Cacique cheese and meat was rejected by a grocery store/purchaser due to temperature abuse.

The AEHD said the product was then directly sold to consumers from the back of the truck in Hereford on Thursday.

Officials said the product was ultimately detained by DSHS Food and Drug investigators and returned to the plant in Amarillo, but there were several thousand pounds of product that were unaccounted for.

The AEHD said that a portion of the the product may have been sold directly to consumers in Hereford and some of the product may have been purchased by local business owners for use in local food establishments.
