AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – According to the most recent GasBuddy report, gas prices in the Amarillo area fell by 6.2 cents in the last week to reach an average of $2.70/gallon on Monday. Those prices were noted as 19.8 cents lower than a month ago and 80.7 cents lower than a year ago.

GasBuddy reported that the cheapest station in Amarillo was priced at $2.19/gallon on Sunday while the most expensive was $2.85/gallon, a difference of 66 cents. The lowest price in Texas on Sunday was $2.19/gallon while the highest was $3.73/gallon, a difference of $1.54.

Nationally, the price of gas fell 7.2 cents per gallon in the last week to reach an average of $3.22/gallon on Monday. That national average was noted as down 22.5 cents per gallon from one month ago and 58.8 cents per gallon lower than one year ago. The national average price of diesel declined by 4.5 cents in the last week to stand at $3.62/gallon, the lowest price since early 2022.

Gas prices in areas neighboring Amarillo included:

    • Lubbock- $2.67/gallon, down 6.2 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.73/gallon.
    • Midland Odessa- $2.68/gallon, down 8.0 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.76/gallon.
    • Oklahoma- $2.73/gallon, down 10.8 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.83/gallon.

“Impressively, for the sixth straight week, gas prices have dropped to their lowest since winter. GasBuddy now counts 11 states and over 45,000 stations with gas prices below $3 per gallon,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “We fully expect gas prices will continue to drop as Americans drive less with the onset of fall. With oil prices falling below $70 per barrel, their lowest since 2021, there’s solid room for gas prices and diesel to continue falling for some time. We expect the national average could fall below $3 per gallon as early as October for the first time since 2021, which would be music to the ears of motorists and certainly to politicians who are angling to be elected this fall.”
