PORTALES, N.M. (KAMR/KCIT) — Officials with the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority invites the community its groundbreaking for the Finished Water 3B (FW3B) Pipeline Project. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday Sept. 19.

This is a chance for the community to hear and learn from key officials and project leaders about the importance of the Eastern New Mexico Rural Water System for the region said ENMWUA.

According to an ENMWUA news release, this groundbreaking will mark the beginning of a important phase to secure a long-term water supply for the Portales community.

“Today’s groundbreaking for the FW3B Pipeline is not just the start of a construction project—it’s a promise to the people of Portales and Eastern New Mexico that we are committed to protecting and enhancing our water security. Together, with the help of our partners, we are building a stronger, more resilient water system for generations to come,” said Michael A. Morris, Chairman, ENMWUA.

Officials detailed that the project plans to connect Portales to the overall Eastern New Mexico Rural Water System. The 5.7-mile segment of pipeline construction will complete the Portales transmission to the connection point at the City of Portales Lime Street Water Storage Facility.

According to the release, the FW3B Pipeline is expected to be completed by September 2025.

The project funded by the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) Funds, as well as support from local, state, and federal partners.
