Area man sentenced to 10 years in prison on aggravated assault charge

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — An area man was sentenced to 10 years in prison on an aggravated assault charge stemming from an incident where he hit another person with his truck, according to the Randall County District Attorney, Robert Love.

According to the DA, Jerrod Allen Standridge was convicted by a Randall County Jury on a charge of “Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.”

The charges stem from an August 2022 incident when a “verbal dispute,” escalated leading to Standridge hitting the person with his truck. The victim had numerous injuries and was not able to walk said the DA.

At sentencing on Sept. 11, evidence was presented that showed that Standridge was placed on probation multiple times and that he had engaged in an “Aggravated Robbery,” committed at gunpoint over ten years ago. The Court also heard from the victim regarding the financial distress caused to his family.

The Judge sentenced Standridge to 10 years in the Texas Department of Corrections and ordered financial restitution.

Because the crime involved a “deadly weapon,” Standridge must serve half of his sentence before he becomes eligible for parole said the DA.
