    ENMU to host annual Green and Silver Marching band competition

    PORTALES, N.M. (KAMR/KCIT) — The Eastern New Mexico University Department of Music announced that its annual Green and Silver Classic Marching Band competition will return to the Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium on Oct. 1.

    According to ENMU officials, gates will open at 11 a.m. and the event is free to the public. High school marching bands from West Texas and New Mexico, will compete and be judged by nationally recognized music educators who will provide formative commentary in the area of music performance, marching performance, general effect, and percussion performance.

    “Please join us for a fun-filled afternoon of marching band entertainment,” Dustin Seifert, director of Bands for ENMU. “This event is always a wonderful celebration of youth; young people collaborating to create something together they could they could not create alone.”

    This year’s special guest adjudicators include:

    • Dr. Jon Sweet, director of Athletic Bands at Washington State University;
    • Dr. BJ Brooks, the director of the Sound of West Texas Buffalo Marching Band;
    • Eric Rath, the director of bands at Canyon High School; and
    • Dr. Peter Grubisich, the assistant professor of percussion at Eastern New Mexico University.

    ENMU officials noted that the event features educational opportunities for each high school participating, including a 15-minute Director Huddle with adjudicators immediately following the performance, a 15-minute Drumline/Front Ensemble Clinic with the percussion adjudicator, and ENMU providing each band with HD performance video.

    Awards will be handed out in one of the following categories:

    • Best Overall Band
    • Standard of Excellence
    • Best in Class (A, AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAAA)
    • Best in Music Performance (A, AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAAA)
    • Best Marching Performance (A, AA, ,AAA ,AAAA , AAAAA)
    • Best General Effect (A, AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAAA)
    • Best Percussion (A, AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAAA)

    The night will complete with a performance from Eastern New Mexico University Greyhound Sound.
