WT 2024 ‘Out of This World’ homecoming kicks-off on Oct. 4

CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — A full week of fun and sports will be available as West Texas A&M University celebrates Homecoming 2024 next week.

This years homecoming is themed “Out of This World,” and will feature Homecoming events from Oct. 4 to Oct.12, ending with the the Buffs taking on the Western New Mexico Mustangs.

“Homecoming Week is the centerpiece of the Alumni Association’s outreach efforts and is truly a special time of year for the entire Buff community, from alumni to students to faculty and staff to our friends in Canyon and the region,” said Ronnie Hall, WT Alumni Association executive director. “We invite everyone to join us on campus to celebrate WT’s excellence and create lifelong memories.”

Student activities during the week will include:

• Paint the Town Maroon on Friday Oct. 4, students plan to decorate windows and vehicles around the community.
• “Tunes at Noon” is a karaoke party scheduled on Oct. 8 and 9 in the JBK Commons
• A dodgeball tournament Oct. 9 in the Virgil Henson Activities Center; and Pigskin Revue,
• The annual spirit rally at 8 p.m. Oct. 11 on Citizens Bank Plaza at Buffalo Stadium.

The following homecoming event will take place on Saturday:

Thursday

The Phoenix is the celebration of WT’s Distinguished Alumni Class of 2024 scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 10. The event will include a dinner and program, followed by jazz music and desserts.

Friday

The Dr. Paul Engler Bronze Statue is scheduled to be revealed at 11 a.m. on Oct. 11, honoring the “legendary cattleman and philanthropist,” at the Happy State Bank Academic & Research Building.

Saturday

• WT Men’s Soccer vs Sul Ross State at 11 a.m.
• The homecoming parade begins at 1 p.m.
• WT women’s soccer vs Sul Ross State at 1:30 p.m.
• Homecoming tailgate block party begins at 2 p.m.
• Football game vs Western New Mexico at 7 p.m.
