Dumas man dead after Thursday morning semi-truck crash east of Dalhart

HARTLEY COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Texas Department of Public Safety released information on a Thursday morning crash involving two semi-trailers that killed one Dumas man.

According to Texas DPS, at around 6:40 a.m. on Thursday 31-year-old Jesus Castillo-Rosas of Dumas was driving a Mack truck tractor/semi-trailer westbound on FM 281, about 11 miles east of Dalhart. At the same time, a Volvo truck tractor/semi-trailer exited a private drive and turned right to travel east on FM 281.

Texas DPS said that while the Volvo truck was turning, its semi-trailer detached and came to rest in both lanes of travel. Castillo-Rosas was not able to avoid a collision and hit the semi-trailer.

The detached trailer turned and rolled over onto its side in the south ditch, said Texas DPS, while Castillo-Rosas’ truck continued west before reaching a final rest in the north ditch.

Castillo-Rosas died at the scene of the crash, said Texas DPS, while the other driver was examined at the scene by emergency responders and released.

The crash remains under investigation by Texas DPS.
