Man killed in Kanarraville shooting after alleged rape attempt

A man was killed in a Kanarraville shooting Wednesday evening and another man was taken into custody following the deadly incident.

Officials identified the individual who was taken into custody as 18-year-old Kyle Jessop. He was booked into jail on multiple offenses including possession of a dangerous weapon, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful consumption of alcohol as a minor.

The man who was killed was only identified by his age, 33-years-old.

The Iron County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies responded in Kanarraville just before 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Once deputies arrived in the area, they discovered a man had been shot and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Officials later reported that Jessop called authorities to report he had shot a man who allegedly tried to sexually assault him.

"Jessop then secured the firearm inside the residence, cooperated with law enforcement and was taken into custody without further incident," a release reads.

The identities of the man who died, as well as the relationship between the two men, was not disclosed.

"It is important for the public to know that this is an isolated incident and that there is no threat to public safety at this time," the sheriff's office stated.

Officials reported that an investigation is ongoing as they await results from an autopsy.
