One dead, one seriously injured – crash shuts down Kanawha County roadway indefinitely

HANDLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A fatal motor vehicle accident has shut down a Kanawha County roadway on Monday evening.

Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputies are currently on the scene of a two-vehicle crash between Handley and Montgomery on Maccorkle Avenue SE (WV Route 61).

Authorities have confirmed that two individuals were involved in the accident, one of whom was confirmed dead at the scene. The second involved individual was transported to receive medical treatment for serious injuries.

Identifying information pertaining to those involved in the accident has not been released at the time of writing.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that MacCorkle Avenue SE (WV Route 61) between Handley and Montgomery will be shut down indefinitely as investigators assess the scene and work to determine the cause of the fatal accident.

Motorists have been urged to exercise caution and to avoid the area if at all possible. Due to lengthy roadway delays, alternate routes such as US Route 60 have been recommended.
