Slayton man impaled in the leg while working, sheriff says
MEEKER COUNTY, Minn. — A 37-year-old man was hurt on the job Thursday evening when he fell into a pit and was impaled in the leg with a rod.The Meeker County Sheriff's Office says first responders were called to the scene on the 67000 block of CSAH 18 in Ellsworth Township around 6:45 p.m. The 37-year-old worker, from Slayton, was conducting fiber optic work at the time, the sheriff's office says. He was taken to a hospital in St. Cloud and is being treated for his injuries.

New tower aims to bring chimney swifts back to Delano
People in downtown Delano may have noticed a new tower on the levee between the Riverside Commons building and the South Fork of the Crow River. That tower, visible from Riverfront Park, was designed to be a habitat for chimney swifts. The birds, once common in the area, have disappeared due to people capping their chimneys, eliminating their roosting and breeding sites.

Man carjacked, shot near Loring Park
MINNEAPOLIS — A man is fighting for his life after apparently being carjacked and shot overnight near Loring Park in Minneapolis. Police said in a release that officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Oak Grove St. just before 2 a.m. on reports of a shooting. Arriving squads found a man suffering from apparent life-threatening gunshot wounds, and started lifesaving efforts until paramedics arrived. The victim was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center.
