The 38th annual Cannon Cruisers Country Cruise will be Friday, Aug. 2, with some changes compared to prior years. Minnesota DNR has added No. 11 to its pool of Scientific & Natural Areas (SNA) in Lake Superior's Minnesota neighborhood, it announced this week. "The new 25 acre Icelandite Coastal Fen Scientific and Natural Area was acquired by the DNR with help from Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and Reinvest in Minnesota. The site is 11 miles northeast of Grand Marais and is one of only two known fens on coastal wetlands on Minnesota's North Shore." This aerial view by T. Man seriously burned in brush pile fire accident near Dassel
(Dassel MN-) A Winsted man was seriously burned Thursday while he was burning a brush pile in Meeker County. The sheriff's department says 53-year-old Jeremy Hirsch was helping family members clean-up a yard in the 27000 Block of 742nd Avenue in Dassel Township and was attempting to burn a brush pile, using an accelerant. They say the fire started and came back on the victim, causing severe burns over a significant portion of his body. Hirsch was flown by LifeLink 3 helicopter from the scene to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment. The call came in shortly before noon Thursday.
