City of St. Charles attends to storm damage, prepares for impending second storm
The City of St. Charles continues cleanup after a powerful storm struck Kane County on July 14. After the storm, several City departments, including Public Works, the Police Department and Fire Department, responded to storm-related service calls. The Southwest quadrant of St. Charles – the area south of Main Street and west of the Fox River – was hit hardest, and experienced the worst of the city’s storm damage.

Aurora panel recommends ordinances beginning process to annex proposed solar farm site
An Aurora City Council committee has recommended two ordinances beginning the process of annexing a property in Sugar Grove Township to stop a proposed solar farm. Aldermen on the Building, Zoning and Economic Development Committee on Wednesday passed the ordinances along to Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole to annex the about 40 acres where the Kane County Board has approved a solar farm.

Kane County Cougars falter in late innings vs. Cleburne
Another late-game push for the Cleburne Railroaders (34-24) topped the Kane County Cougars (31-25) to move two games ahead in first place of the East Division Saturday night. Despite tying things up in the seventh and threatening in the ninth, the Cougars fell 9-7 in front of 6,516 at Northwestern Medicine Field in Geneva.

The Kane County Cougars scored a season-high 20 runs on 18 hits on their way to a 20-6 win over the Cleburne Railroaders on Sunday at Northwestern Medicine Field. The offensive showcase was highlighted by a 12-run fourth inning that saw the Cougars (32-25) hit three home runs. With the win, the Cougars secured a series split in the six-game set with Cleburne (34-25).

Victim of officer-involved shooting in Elgin Monday evening identified
The Kane County Coroner's Office has identified the victim involved in an officer-involved shooting in Elgin Monday evening. The victim was 18-year-old Tyquaze Nicolas of South Elgin, according to Coroner Rob Russell. An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday, and the preliminary cause of death was consistent with multiple gunshot wounds. Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab for analysis.
