‘Double check your receipts,’ warns Target shopper after getting overcharged for fourth time – solution is your camera

A TARGET customer has warned other shoppers to check their receipts twice after they were allegedly overcharged on four separate occasions.

The frustrated shopper claimed they only caught the most recent instance where the price for an item no their receipt didn't match a sale sign in-store.

"Just an FYI if you shop at Target Windward Mall," they wrote in a post to Facebook earlier this month.

Windward Mall is a shopping center located in Kaneohe, Hawaii, about 16 miles northeast of Honolulu.

"Please check your receipts or pay attention to the screen when checking out," the shopper advised.

They continued to claim during a recent trip they noticed the fourth and most recent overcharge after arriving home with their merchandise.

Using the Fetch Rewards application, which awards shoppers gift cards and other perks for taking a picture of their receipts, the Kaneohe resident said they quickly spotted the discrepancy.

The anonymous Target shopper also claimed they spoke to a cashier at self-checkout after the incident, who told them "next time take a picture of the sign to show proof."

They were confused as to how that would make sense, and vowed to speak with a manager about the alleged overcharging soon.

It's unclear if the customer ever did speak with a manager, or if the situation was ultimately resolved.

    FINES PAID

Target faced backlash earlier this year after officials found several instances of overcharging at select stores in California.

Data collected from 2023 and 2024 by inspectors with the Marion County Department of Agriculture, Weights, and Measures, showed the price discrepancies, per SFGate.

Some Target stores in the Bay Area also did not pass follow-up inspections.

A Target location in North Carolina also paid state officials over $14,755 in fines last year over at least seven failed price inspections, Charlotte NBC affiliate WCNC reported.

Fans were furious over the reports out of California and North Carolina.

"Shame on Target," a customer cried in a post on Facebook.

    What is Target Circle 360?

In April, Target launched its first-ever paid membership program, Target Circle 360.

For $99 a year ($49 if you sign up before May 18) members get access to the following perks:

    • Unlimited, free same-day delivery on orders over $35

    • Free two-day shipping on 100,000s of items
    • 5% off in-store and online
    • Automatic deals and exclusive partner perks

Another stressed shoppers should "really watch" and check receipts every time they go to the store.

The U.S. Sun previously reached out to Target for comment on the overcharging but did not receive a response.

    RETAIL RAGE

Other retailers also came under the microscope for overcharging.

The same North Carolina officials that discovered the price discrepancies at Target also found a similar situation at several Family Dollar locations in the state.

Four stores paid over $56,000 in fines, with overcharge rates noted as high as 8.67%, per a release from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

A Walmart customer also blasted the retail giant recently for an alleged overcharge that was "unacceptable" and saw them "marooned at customer service."

Another Walmart shopper recently claimed they were told by employees that an overcharge was a "slip of the finger" during a recent trip.
