A young man was found dead after being shot Tuesday night in Kannapolis, police told Channel 9.

Investigators said they got a call about shots fired near Caribbean Court around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday. Officers arrived and found an 18-year-old man dead after being shot.

Police said another victim was also found and taken to the hospital for “life-threatening injuries.” It’s not clear if the second person was shot.

Kannapolis police identified the 18-year-old victim as Damien Carter Senesaynho.

The police department didn’t say what may have led to the shooting, but investigators said it was an “isolated incident” with no threat to the public.

Neighbors told Channel 9′s Hannah Goetz on Wednesday that they were woken up by the sound of gunshots.

“They were running for their lives,” said Janice Lynch.

Lynch told Goetz she was on her porch when she heard the shots and then saw a group of boys running.

“The shots and stuff, they were real loud ... they cut the corner and ran to Second Court, another shot came on, then we heard a crash,” Lynch said.

She said she saw a car crashed into a tree on the corner of Caribbean Court and W. Green Drive.

Lynch said she was shocked to hear someone died, and she hopes the violence comes to an end. She worries about her grandson’s safety and the safety of all of the nearby kids.

“It’s kids out here, you know school is out ... they still be out here playing at the playground sometimes. You know what, I just think they need to stop it because it could have been a child being hurt,” Lynch said.

No arrests have been announced at this time.
