Overland Park's Prime Capital Investment Advisors is changing its name to Prime Capital Financial as part of a decision unify its brands under a single name.<\p> Qualified Plan Advisors, one of its subsidiaries, now will be known as Prime Capital Retirement. Prime Capital Wealth Management will become Prime Capital Wealth. <\p>
Bustling OP intersection moves closer to adding big apartment complex
Plans to develop an enormous apartment complex near a busy Overland Park intersection are moving forward. <\p> Q135 Development LLC, a team of developers led by Brad Oddo, wants the city to rezone 35 acres at the southeast corner of 135th Street and Quivira Road to build about 700 apartments. <\p>
Meat distributor seeks bonds to relocate across state line
A North Kansas City meat distribution hub plans to relocate across the state border. <\p> Mies Wholesale Meats is requesting the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas, issue $17.4 million in industrial revenue bonds to support the construction of a new industrial facility at 6036 Speaker Road. <\p>

Under-30 KC entrepreneur unveils new tech for beef industry
The brisket sandwich you eat at a Kansas City restaurant may have gone through safety tests from a local technology company. <\p> Alden, founded and led by Elijah Sharpe, developed a rapid E. coli test for the beef industry. Food processors are required to test cattle for disease, which typically is done with PCR tests that can take days to process. Alden's rapid test comes back in about eight hours. <\p>
De Soto move could unlock more development flow
New sewers could lead to a wave of development in De Soto. <\p> During a special meeting last week, the De Soto City Council approved the creation of a sewer benefit district to support the construction of a sewer line to serve Astra Enterprise Park and surrounding properties. <\p>
Here's a tax prognosis from KU Health-Liberty merger
A surprising wrinkle emerged for residents when The University of Kansas Health System and Liberty Hospital reported last week that their finalized merger agreement would pump $324 million into the hospital.<\p> The combined health system said it would “move toward eliminating taxes collected” by the New Liberty Hospital District — a shift that would put to rest a key concern lawmakers raised when the merger was announced in the fall. <\p>

Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete LLP appointed Kim Seten as office managing partner in Kansas City, effective July 1. <\p> Seten is a 25-year labor and employment attorney, spending virtually her entire career at Constangy, which she joined in January 2000. Seten spent a year at Shook, Hardy & Bacon before joining Constangy. <\p>
Prairiefire gets hot tenant for Amazon Fresh space
Prairiefire has landed a family-friendly entertainment tenant to take over space originally slated for an Amazon Fresh grocery store.<\p> Plans fell through for the Overland Park store as Amazon hit pause on grocery expansion following the worst quarter in its history as a public company. Construction wrapped up about a year ago on the new 42,938-square-foot building across from Chicken N Pickle.<\p>
KCI ranks in top 10 on prestigious airport list
With its new single-terminal layout, artful interior and amenities, the Kansas City International Airport is swiftly gaining fans.<\p> So many fans, that Travel + Leisure’s readers ranked it No. 6 among the top 10 best U.S. airports in 2024. The Top 10 list is part of the magazine’s annual “World’s Best Awards” survey, which asks readers to share their opinions about hotels, resorts and cities, among other categories. More than 700,000 votes were cast.<\p>
KC engineering firm names leader for new sustainability division
Overland Park-based Black & Veatch selected an executive to lead a new division focused on sustainability.<\p> James Moos will serve as president of the engineering firm's Technology, Commercial and Industrial sector. He will be responsible for guiding the growth and market strategy for the new division, which supports clients in technology-led advanced manufacturing, cloud computing, clean transportation and agricultural/biotech industries.<\p>
