    Kansas City-area fireworks shows postponed due to possible severe weather

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Due to inclement weather Tuesday night and extreme heat on Wednesday, multiple fireworks shows in the Kansas City metro have been postponed.

    The event at Pierson Park in Kansas City, Kansas’ Turner neighborhood has been postponed until Friday, July 12.

    The event is free to the public with fireworks starting at 9:45 p.m.

    Some important notes from the Turner Recreation Commission:

    • Once all parking lots are full, all entrances into Pierson Park will be closed
    • Street closures at 55th and Metropolitan and 55th and Douglas will go into effect once lots inside Pierson Park are full and the show is about to begin
    • People will no longer be able to enter the park after 9:30 p.m.
    • All traffic will be one-directional once inside the park
    • Shelter 1 will be closed for public use
    • Pierson Hall will be closed for public use
    • All other shelters will be open for use
    • No cars will be allowed to park on 55th Street
    • No alcohol or drugs are allowed inside Pierson Park

    The City of Odessa has also rescheduled its fireworks event to Sunday, July 7. Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m.

    Roeland Park’s annual Northeast Johnson County Fireworks Display that was scheduled for Wednesday, July 3, has now been postponed until Friday, July 5 and will be held at the Bishop Miege Baseball Field. Fireworks will begin at 9:45 p.m.

    The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the entire Kansas City area until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

    Storms are expected to develop after 4 p.m. with strong to severe storms expected mainly between 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Gusty winds of 60 to 70 mph are the the main threat with some areas seeing 1-3″ of additional rain. Hail, flash flooding and an isolated tornado are also possible. Additional rain and storm chances arrive on Wednesday and Thursday as well.
