    BV West outfielder selected by Chicago Cubs in Round 11 of 2024 MLB Draft

    Eli Lovich, an outfielder from Blue Valley West High School, on Tuesday became the second Kansas City-area baseball player selected in the 2024 MLB Draft.

    Lovich was picked in the 11th round by the Chicago Cubs. He was the 332nd player taken overall in the three-day draft process, which was wrapping up Tuesday afternoon.

    Trey Snyder, a shortstop from Liberty North , was the KC area’s first player selected, going to the New York Mets in Monday’s fifth round.

    Lovich, 18, previously committed to playing college baseball at Arkansas, and he comes from a baseball family.

    One older brother, Ross, played for the Missouri Tigers, then transferred to the Razorbacks for his final college season this year; another older brother, Jackson, currently plays for Mizzou.

    Also selected on the draft’s final day was pitcher Anson Seibert of Blue Valley Southwest. The Detroit Tigers picked him in the 16th round, No. 476 overall.

    And shortstop Jackson Nicklaus, a Kansas City, Kansas senior-to-be for the Oklahoma Sooners, was taken in Round 17 (520th overall) by the L.A. Dodgers.

    • Brendan Jones, outfielder, K-State: selected in Round 12 (361st overall) by the New York Yankees
    • Tegan Cain, pitcher, Kansas: selected in Round 13 (402nd overall) by the Philadelphia Phillies
    • Ryan Magdic, pitcher, Missouri: selected in Round 14 (406th overall) by the Oakland A’s
    • Ben Hartl, catcher, Kansas: selected in Round 14 (435th overall) by the Texas Rangers
    • Carter Rustad, pitcher, Missouri: selected in Round 15 (459th overall) by the Baltimore Orioles
    • Evan Shaw, pitcher, Kansas: selected in Round 16 (490th overall) by the L.A. Dodgers
    • Bryce Mayer, pitcher, Missouri: selected in Round 16 (493rd overall) by the Houston Astros
    • Eric Loomis, pitcher, Missouri State: selected in Round 16 (495th overall) by the Texas Rangers
    • Brandt Thompson, pitcher, Missouri State: selected in Round 17 (501st overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals
