KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Current will be represented at the 2024 Paris Olympics by at least one player.

Forward Nichelle Prince will represent Canada for her third Olympic tournament in this year’s Olympics. Prince won bronze in 2016 and gold in 2021 with her home squad.

Prince has only appeared in three matches for the Current this season. She returned to the team at the beginning of the season with a calf injury after playing for Canada at the Concacaf W Gold Cup in February.

She played in three consecutive matches in May before being sidelined with head coach Vlatko Andonovski wanting Prince to be available for Canada for the Olympics.

Prince has 97 caps for Canada’s senior national dating back to her debut as a 17-year-old in 2013.

Current midfielder Desiree Scott has been a mainstay for Canada’s national team with 187 caps but was not selected for the Olympic roster. Scott recovered from a knee injury to begin the season and has played in five matches as a substitute.

Canada’s group stage includes New Zealand on Thursday, July 25, France  on Sunday, July 28 at the Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium in Saint-Étienne, and Colombia on Wednesday, July 31 at the Nice Stadium.
